Drexel Keeps Pace in CAA Playoff Hunt

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's lacrosse team dominated play in a 9-3 win against George Mason. The Dragons (9-6, 3-3) outshot the Patriots (3-13, 0-7) 24-18 and won 10 draw controls to George Mason's four. Drexel is 6-3 at Vidas Field.
Senior Katie Blazer led the Dragons with three goals. Junior Charlotte Wood posted a pair of goals and assists for Drexel. Wood is one goal shy of recording her 100th career goal. Teammate Alyse Maiden also knocked in two goals.
The Dragons started a 5-0 run after an unassisted goal by Maiden in the opening minute of the game. With five minute remaining in the first half, George Mason's Madalyn Jamison scored a free position goal. Drexel led by four, 5-1, at half.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Jamison found the back of the cage and closed the gap to three, 5-2. Two minutes later, Wood answered back with an unassisted goal. With less than 20 minutes remaining, George Mason's Caitlin Formato scored an unassisted goal and looked to create momentum for the Patriots. The Dragons went on a three-goal run and held onto the 9-3 lead until time expired.
Senior goalkeeper Whitney Johnson recorded eight saves. Johnson now has 82 saves on the season. Blazer also led the defense with four groundballs and caused four turnovers.
The Dragons will travel to Hofstra on Thursday, April 28 at 4:00 p.m. for the final contest of the regular season.
