Week 8 Big East Women's Release

PROVIDENCE, R.I.
– Georgetown and Syracuse have been represented in the latest BIG EAST women's lacrosse weekly awards as Hoyas senior Jordy Kirr was tabbed BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and Orange senior Liz Hogan earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Syracuse heads to Georgetown on Saturday, April 16 for a game that will be televised live at Noon on the CBS College Sports Network.

Kirr earns BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after totaling nine points, including five assists in a 2-0 week. The senior had six points, including four assists in a 19-12 win over Louisville. In a 17-2 win against Cincinnati, Kirr had three points, including two goals. Kirr also set the school record for career assists totaling 101. Coupled with 109 career goals, Kirr is the first player in school history to surpass 100 goals and 100 assists in her career.

Hogan earns BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors following a 2-1 week for the Orange. The senior totaled 26 saves and helped Syracuse win a pair of conference games. In a 17-9 win against Connecticut, Hogan had nine saves in 54 minutes. In a 12-7 win against Notre Dame, Hogan had 11 saves, two ground balls and one caused turnover. She also made six saves in a 10-7 loss at Dartmouth on April 4.

Had nine points, including seven goals in a 2-0 week; scored five goals in a 14-12 win over Louisville, along with three ground balls

Accumulated seven ground balls, four draw controls and four caused turnovers in a 1-1 week; helped the team in a 15-4 win at Villanova

Kerry Stoothoff, Loyola, Jr., GK
Totaled 15 saves in a 2-0 week, including eight stops in a 14-12 victory against Louisville

Sophia Thomas, Georgetown, So., M
Led the team in points (10), caused turnovers (eight) and goals (six) in a 2-0 week; also had eight ground balls and one draw control

Michelle Tumolo, Syracuse, So., A
Totaled 11 points, including six goals in a 2-1 week; also tallied six ground balls, six caused turnovers and one draw control

THE INSIDE SCOOP

CONFERENCE PLAY HEATING UP – Conference play hits a pivotal weekend with eight teams in action. Here's something to watch for in each of the six conference games:

Friday Games
VILLANOVA at CINCINNATI – Each team is looking for its first conference win of the year. In fact, Cincinnati is searching for its first BIG EAST win since joining the league in 2009. Villanova tries to earn its first league win on the road since joining the league in 2010.

RUTGERS at LOUISVILLE – The Cardinals scoring duo of Katie Oliverio (33 assists) and Bergan Foley (49 goals) square off against RU goalkeeper Lily Kalata (8.20 GAA).

Saturday Games
CONNECTICUT at NOTRE DAME – The Irish lead the all-time series 10-2, with UConn's last win coming in 2005.

SYRACUSE at GEORGETOWN – Televised on the CBS Sports Network (DirecTV #613) at noon. The teams have met 16 times, with GU holding a 12-4 advantage in the all-time series. The teams have split their last eight meetings. Last year the teams met three times (on consecutive weekends), including the first round of the NCAA Championship.

Sunday Games
RUTGERS at CINCINNATI – Last year Rutgers won 21-8 in the season finale for both teams on May 2.

VILLANOVA at LOUISVILLE – Louisville won last year's game 19-6 at Villanova.
