Secora's 11 Points Help DU Defeat UC Davis

from press release

DAVIS, Calif. -- University of Denver women's lacrosse redshirt sophomore Kara Secora (Denver, Colo.) recorded 11 points, the second highest total in DU history, pushing the Pioneers to a 15-14 overtime win against UC Davis on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Alex Befus (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added four goals and an assist, which she fed to freshman Jenn Etzel (Bel Air, Md.) for the game-winner with 2:18 remaining in overtime.

Befus scored twice in the first four minutes to give DU a quick lead, which the Pioneers stretched to as many as four early in the second half.

The Aggies (10-3, 2-2 MPSF) stormed back, tying the score four times during a back-and-forth second half, including a goal by Gina Hoffmire with 5:14 remaining to send the game to overtime.

Hoffmire gave UC Davis the first goal in overtime with 5:22 to go, but Befus scored on an assist by Secora with 3:49 left before providing the helper for Etzel.

Secora had six goals and five assists, while adding a ground ball and draw control in the contest for the Pioneers (4-10, 2-1 MPSF). Only Kristie Leggio's 13 points against Harvard on March 27, 2007, surpassed Secora's point total. Secora's previous career high was 10 points against Quinnipiac on April 3. The midfielder has 29 points in the past four game.

UC Davis outshot Denver 34-28 and won the draw control battle 18-15.

Denver concludes its California road trip with a meeting at Fresno State on Monday at noon MT.
