No. 19 Dartmouth Wins Fifth Straight

HANOVER, N.H. - The #19 Dartmouth women's
lacrosse team once again used a balanced attack to defeat Cornell,
13-7, for its fifth-straight win.
The Big Green (8-2, 4-0) remains unbeaten in Ivy play, setting up a
big Ivy showdown at Penn, who also stands at 4-0 next Saturday in
Philadelphia. Cornell, which was playing its fifth-straight ranked
opponent, dropped to 3-7 overall, 1-4 Ivy.
Dartmouth held a 30-18 shot advantage and won 14 draw controls to
Cornell's eight. Kristen Giovanniello (Old Brookville, N.Y.) made
seven saves to Kyla Dambach's six for the Big Red.
Three different players recorded hat tricks for Dartmouth including
four goals from Kat Collins (Darien, Conn.), three goals and an
assist by Greta Meyer (Denver, Colo.) and a breakout day for Hana
Bowers (Old Greenwich, Conn.), with three goals and an assist.
Cornell actually got on the scoreboard first with an unassisted
tally from Katie Kirk but Dartmouth responded when Bowers converted
off a feed from Meyer, 1-1, 10 minutes into the game. The Big Red
went back up, 2-1, after Kirk assisted on a Jessi Steinberg score,
but Dartmouth stormed ahead with three unanswered goals.
Meyer tied the game with the assist from Courtney Bennett (Darien,
Conn.), before Collins and Bowers each struck again, with Bowers
converting on a great feed from Kirsten Goldberg (Cockeysville,
Md.), to go up 4-2 with 6:45 to play.
Cornell got one more in the first half before the Big Green rattled
off four goals in the final five minutes of the half. Meyer started
and ended the run that also included a free position goal from
Collins, closing the half with a goal with 12 seconds to play off a
great look from Sarah Plumb (Wellesley, Mass.).
Collins made it a 9-3 game early in the second half before Cornell
settled down. With relatively stingy defense, the teams
traded goals until Collins put the Green up 11-5 with 15:50 to play
after three straight free position goals, two for Cornell and one
from Bennett for the Big Green.
Cornell's Kirk scored back-to-back goals to make it an 11-7 game
with just under 10 minutes on the clock, but Dartmouth did a nice
job gaining and maintaining possession down the stretch. Goldberg
converted a free position at 5:27, allowing the Big Green to go
3-for-3 on the day. The Big Green won the ensuing draw and Sarah
Parks (Ellicott City, Md.) made a nice pass from the left side to
find Dana Brisbane (Locust Valley, N.Y.) for her first goal of the
season with 4:25 on the clock.
Dartmouth gained possession on the restart and simply worked the
ball around on attack, choosing not to shoot and running down the
clock.
Parks added a team-high four draw controls to her two point day
while Bennett grabbed three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Collins recorded three caused turnovers as did Plumb and Hope
McIntyre (Cockeysville, Md.)
Dartmouth remains a perfect 5-0 at home this season and following
the trip to Penn will play its last three regular-season games on
Scully-Fahey Field.
The Big Green faces off against the #8 Quakers this Saturday, April
16 at 1 p.m. at Franklin Field.
