Balanced Effort Leads No. 10 JMU Past Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. -- The 10th-ranked James Madison
women's lacrosse team gave up the game's opening goal but quickly
took a 4-1 lead en route to a 21-7 win at George Mason Saturday
In the Colonial Athletic Association opening game for both teams, the Dukes improved to 7-2 overall while Mason dropped to 2-7.
Senior Mary Kate Lomady (Abington, Pa./Abington) scored two of JMU's first four goals as the Dukes tallied four goals in just over four minutes in the early going. Lomady finished with three goals and two assists, and the Dukes also got a three-goal, two-assist night from redshirt freshman Megan Piotrowicz (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh).
Five other Dukes scored multiple goals, including junior Caitlin McHugh (Westminster, Md./Mercy), who scored three times and added an assist. JMU got two goals each from juniors Ashley Kimener (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and Alex Napoli (Highland, Md./River Hill), redshirt sophomore Rebecca McLouth (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) and freshman Amy Roguski (Sykesville, Md./Liberty).
Mason was led by Emily Ellisen with three scores.
Dukes' redshirt junior goalkeeper Alex Menghetti (Media, Pa./Penncrest) made four saves, and she and Napoli led JMU with three ground balls apiece. JMU's draw control leaders were junior Cally Chakrian (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow), sophomore Amanda Mathews (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and junior Monica Zabel (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) with two each. Junior Annie Brophy (Berwyn, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) led the team in caused turnovers with two.
Mason starting goalie Brittany Pastrana made four saves in just over 55 minutes of play.
