Mollison's 10-Spot Leads Terps Over Towson

TOWSON, Md. - Sarah Mollison scored a
career-high 10 points on five goals and five assists as No.1
Maryland toppled Towson, 17-8, in non-conference action on the road
Tuesday.
Karri Ellen Johnson netted five goals and Katie Schwarzmann added
three to join Mollison in a three-pronged attack to lift Maryland
(11-0, 3-0 ACC) to its 21st consecutive victory. Kristy Black
registered five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers to pace
the Terp defense.
Maryland picked up right where it left off the last time it took
the field at Unitas Stadium nearly 10 months ago during its
national championship victory against Northwestern. The Terps, who
started the match on a 4-0 run, outscored Towson 11-4 in the first
half, including a 46-second stretch around the 17-minute mark when
Laura Merrifield netted two scores and Beth Glaros scored one.
Johnson completed a hat trick and Mollison boasted four helpers in
the first stanza alone.
Towson (4-5) stepped up its offense in the second half, notching a
3-0 run midway through the period, but the Terps buckled down
defensively and secured a 6-4 advantage in the period, despite
shuffling in a large amount of reserves.
Brittany Dipper had a stellar day in the cage, racking up six saves
in 34 minutes of action. The Maryland defense has now held 17 of
its last 22 opponents to fewer than eight goals. The Terps outshot
Towson 32-19 in the rare evening affair.
"It was a good game, I thought we had some lapses defensively that
Towson capitalized on," Reese said. "We just need to do a better
job of connecting our passes and making sure we are putting the
ball away.
"Sarah (Mollison) sees the ball really well. She was able to put
the ball around Towson's goalie, who is very good, and to have ten
points is just great."
Mollison was just two points shy of tying fellow Aussie Jen Adams
for the most points in a game at Maryland. With five helpers on the
day, the Tewaaraton nominee moves past Judy Dougherty for fifth on
Maryland's career assists list with 107.
Maryland kicks off a three-game homestand beginning with a Friday
night contest against No. 7 Penn at 7 p.m.
