UVM's Mas Nets More AEC Hardware

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Vermont freshman Sydney Mas has been named the America East Rookie of the Week for the second straight week. The league office made the announcement on Monday.

Mas led Vermont to a 2-0 week with wins over Oregon, 11-9, and Stony Brook, 15-7. She scored seven goals and totaled 11 draw controls in the two games. Mas began the week with four goals and four draws controls in a come-from-behind victory over the Ducks. She added a hat trick and seven draw controls in the victory over the Seawolves in the league opener.

Mass leads America East with 31 goals and is tied for the top spot in the conference with 36 points. She also ranks among the national leaders in goals per game (11th-3.44), goals (13th-31), draw controls (23rd-29) and points (25th-36).

Vermont begins the week with a 6-4 record and is 1-0 in league play. The Catamounts have won four straight and six of their last seven. UVM's four consecutive wins matches the longest streak under head coach Jen Johnson in her career. Vermont won four straight in Johnson's second season in 2006 and again in 2009.

The Catamounts close out a three-game homestand hosting Holy Cross on Wednesday (March 30) at 3 p.m. and will travel to Binghamton for an America East game on Saturday (April 2) at 12 p.m.
