Loyola Women Sweep Big East Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Following another 2-0 week, two Loyola student-athletes have earned BIG EAST women's lacrosse weekly honors. Senior Grace Gavin has been tabbed BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while junior Kerry Stoothoff is the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. The duo has helped No. 6/5 Loyola begin the year with an undefeated record of 8-0.

Gavin earns BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after recording 15 points in a 2-0 week for Loyola. The senior had 10 goals, along with five assists, four draw controls, three caused turnovers and two ground balls. In a 15-8 win at Maryland-Baltimore County, Gavin had seven points, including four goals and three draw controls. In a 20-10 win against Denver, she had eight points, including six goals. This is the second time Gavin has earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors this year, she also earned the award on March 14.

Stoothoff earns BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors after registering an 8.21 GAA in a 2-0 week for the Greyhounds. The junior totaled 12 saves in 95 minutes last week and grabbed two ground balls. In a 15-8 win at Maryland-Baltimore County, Stoothoff had 11 saves and played the full 60 minutes. This is the fourth time she has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, Stoothoff also earned the honor on Feb. 21, March 7 and March 14.

BIG EAST HONOR ROLL

Shaylyn Blaney, Notre Dame, Sr., M

Had four points with three goals in a 10-9 loss against Hofstra; also had five draw controls, four caused turnovers and two ground balls

Emily Dashiell, Louisville, Sr., M

In a 1-1 week, she scored a pair of goals against No. 7/7 Stanford while tallying five ground balls and four draw controls. Against Cincinnati in UofL's league-opener, Dashiell registered three points (two goals and an assist), including the game-winning goal.

Lauren Kahn, Connecticut, Fr., M

Registered eight points, including seven goals in a 1-1 week; had three goals and an assist in a 17-9 win at St. Bonaventure

Sophia Thomas, Georgetown, So., M

Helped the team to a 1-1 week, including a 17-12 win over Villanova in their conference-opener; had five points, four goals against VU

Michelle Tumolo, Syracuse, So., A

Totaled 10 points, including six assists in a 1-1 week; had three goals in a loss at Northwestern and four assists in a win at Rutgers

THE INSIDE SCOOP

CLOSE CONTESTS – BIG EAST teams have been involved in 12 one-goal games this year, including one conference contest. Rutgers holds the best record with a 3-1 mark in one-goal decisions.
