Rogers Scores in Last Minute for First ODU Win

PHILADELPHIA - Meredith Rogers scored with 21
seconds remaining in the game to give Old Dominion University
women's lacrosse a thrilling 11-10 win over St. Joseph's Saturday
afternoon in Philadelphia.
Old Dominion took a 10-8 lead on a Lisa Bernardini goal in which
the ODU junior made a nice spin move to shake free from two
defenders with seven minutes remaining, but St. Joe's (3-4) scored
twice, the second with just over two minutes left in the game, to
tie the score at 10.
With under a minute left, Rebecca Hartrum sent a pass from the
right into the middle to Rogers who drive the net and fired a shot
past the Hawks goalie into the bottom corner of the net for the
game-winner.
St. Joe's got the ball into the ODU zone, but Courtney Johnson took
a charge with seven seconds remaining to stop the threat and seal
the win.
The Hawks started out fast, getting out to a 6-3 lead in the first
17 minutes of the game behind two goals apiece from Jen Peters and
Grace Dinn.
The Lady Monarchs fought back scoring four goals in the final 13
minutes, two from Bernardini and one from Sarah Wright with just 17
seconds left in the half to take a 7-6 lead into the break.
ODU continued its momentum coming out of the break, with Bernardini
and Hartrum scoring unassisted goals to push the lead to 7-6.
St. Joe's made the score 9-8 with back-to-back goals before
Bernardini scored her fourth of the game to push it to 10-8.
Bernardini led ODU with four goals and an assist while Hartrum
added two goals and two assists. Sarah Wright chipped in with two
goals and an assist.
Peters led the Hawks with four goals while Dinn notched two goals
and two assists.
Sarah Geary stopped four shots for the Lady Monarchs while Kaitlin
Labarbera made nine saves for St. Joe's.
ODU returns home on Wednesday, March 23 when they host Longwood at
4 p.m.
