Niagara Rallies for First Victory

SOUTH EUCLID, OHIO - A late run pushed the
Niagara women's lacrosse team (1-5) to its first win of the season,
12-9 over the Notre Dame College Falcons (2-4) on Saturday
With the game tied at nine, Niagara would outscore the Falcons 3-0 down the stretch to win the game. Emily French, Rianne Farrugia and Nicole Karek all scored to give Niagara a 12-9 lead with 4:15 remaining in the contest. The Purple Eagles would continue to styfle the Falcons offense for the rest of the game, having not allowed a goal in the final 15:35 of the contest.
After giving up the first three goals of the game, Niagara stormed back to tie the game in a span of 3:13, with two goals from Karek and a tally from Caitlin Sacco. Farrugia scored twice down the stretch and Taryn Burkholder added a goal as Niagara took a slight 6-5 lead into the half.
The second half started with both teams trading goals, with Sacco and French scoring for the Purple Eagles to hold an 8-7 lead. Emily Chayka would score to give Niagara a 9-7 lead, but two goals by Notre Dame College tied the game.
Farrugia and Karek led Niagara with three goals, an assist and four points each.
Niagara is back in action on March 22, when they visit Gannon.
