Longwood Routs Davidson in NLC Opener

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University women’s lacrosse team earned its first National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) win Saturday afternoon at the Athletics Complex in Farmville topping visiting Davidson College 19-4. Senior Cara O’Brien|Arlington (Bishop O'Connell) again led the Lancers (4-3, 1-0 NLC) in scoring, finishing a season-high six chances against the Wildcats (1-7, 0-1âNLC). The Arlington native now has a team-high 23 goals and 27 points on the season. LU faces Old Dominion Wednesday, March 23 at 4 p.m. inâNorfolk, Virginia.
Also tallying a multi-goal game for the Lancers was senior Kesley Dean|Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne’s) with four, junior Jess Rudloff|West Chester, Pa. (West Chester East) with three, including the game-winning finish, and sophomore Jamie Brentlinger|Gambrills, Md. (Arundel) with two.
The Wildcats bookended 13 Lancer goals in the first half, opening the scoring at 28:48 and ending it at 1:33. The second period only saw a combined eight goals with LU finishing four-straight to begin the half before Davidson found the back of the net at 19:05 to end its scoring drought with one final goal at 9:51. Freshman LaurenâPrasnicki|Lexington (Rockbridge County) ended the game’s scoring as she tallied her first collegiate goal with 4:54 remaining.
Earning her fourth win of the season was senior Juli Liebig|Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne's) who made 12 saves in 47:02, while junior Alicia McCarty|Bel Air, Md. (Bel Air) made her first appearance of the 2011 campaign, playing the final 12:58 and recorded two saves.
