Carey Starts, Braun Finishes Bucknell Win

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Ali Carey (Clarksville,
Md./Garrison Forest) scored Bucknell's first four goals in the
first 3 minutes, 45 seconds and Julia Braun (Tomkins Cove,
N.Y./North Rockland) netted six of the team's final eight goals as
the Bison women's lacrosse team defeated Mount St. Mary's, 12-11,
Wednesday afternoon at Graham Field. It was the second win of the
year for Bucknell, which snapped a five-game losing streak.
Carey's early explosion helped Bucknell (2-6) build a 6-1 lead in
the first six minutes of the game. The Mount chipped away at the
Bison advantage to make the score 10-7 at halftime.
Mount St. Mary's (1-5) held Bucknell without a goal over the final
20 minutes and scored the game's final two goals to make the final
margin the closest the game had been since the first minute of
play.
Esther Rufolo was the top scorer for The Mount, registering five
goals, while Jen Semler chipped in three to go along with one
assist.
The Bison did overcome a pair of penalties in the final 10 minutes
of play to hold on for the victory.
Alyssa DeLorenz (Garland, Texas/Plano East) recorded eight saves
for Bucknell, while her counterpart, Brigid McTavish, stopped five
shots. DeLorenz, who entered the game leading the nation in saves,
now has 96 stops on the year.
The Bison held a 23-22 advantage in shots and converted 4 of 6 free
position shots.
Bucknell, which completed a three-game homestand Wednesday
afternoon, will next be on the road at Lehigh on Saturday. The
contest will begin at 3 p.m.
