Dukes Drop Detroit with Strong Second Half

DETROIT – The Duquesne women's lacrosse team improved to 3-2 on the year with a 16-9 win over Detroit.
Haley Marafioti paced the Dukes on offense by scoring a game-high six goals. Katie Rekart added three goals, while both Meredith Dunn and Kelsey O'Donnell added a pair.
Corina Mahorn (Whitby, ON, Anderson CVI) led the Titans
offensively with a four goal performance.
The Titans (0-4) jumped out to a 4-1 lead through the first ten
minutes of action. Their offense would eventually stall out as the
Dukes were able to score the final five goals of the first half to
hold a 6-4 advantage at intermission.
The teams battled back and forth through the beginning of the
second half. The turning point in the game once again came towards
the end of the half as Duquesne secured their victory by scoring
the final five goals of the game.
Mahorn had her best game of the season with four goals against the
Dukes. Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON, Donald A. Wilson
Secondary) and Zaynib Hamze (Dublin, CA, Dublin) also got involved
by scoring two goals. Sophomore Erin Campbell (Orangeville, ON,
Orangeville District Secondary) rounded out the scoring for
Detroit. She now has eight goals this season.
Marybeth Flanagan (Lansing, MI, Waverly) had a great first half
with 10 saves. She ended the game with 13 overall. The Titans will
return to action with a home contest against Niagara on March
18.
