BALTIMORE - Grace Gavin matched her career-high with seven goals and eight points, and the sixth-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team defeated visiting Cornell University, 14-8, on Friday afternoon at Ridley Athletic Complex.

Greyhounds jump out to a 4-1 advantage. She added a fourth goal

Gavin dodged out of a double-team on the left side, cut to the
middle and scored her seventh goal of the game with 17:20 to play,
tying her career-high.
Gavin put the Greyhounds on the scoreboard first with a score a little over two minutes into the game, notching the first of four first half goals for the senior.
Jessi Steinberg answered with 18:17 remaining in the half to pull Cornell even, 1-1. Gavin then tallied two more on individual efforts to complete the hat trick, followed by an Abby Rehfuss goal from a free position shot to make the score 4-1 with 15:38 left in the first half.
Steinberg scored her second between two Libby Johnson goals as the half wound down to tie the game again at 4-4.
The Greyhounds' defense responded and the offense took over, scoring three straight goals to enter halftime with a 7-4 advantage.
With 3:58 before the halftime break, Mary Heneberry notched her second of the season off of a Meg Decker pass to break the deadlock at 5-4.
Gavin added another with a shot that fooled Cornell goalkeeper Kyla Dambach as Gavin fell to her right, making the score 6-4 with 3:22 left in the half.
