Ryan's Goal with 12 Seconds Left Lifts CCSU

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Central Connecticut
lacrosse team defeated Manhattan College 18-17 on Thursday
night. The Blue Devils came from behind to earn the victory
and even their season record at 2-2. The Blue Devils were led

The Blue Devils trailed by as many as six points in the game, but a goal by sophomore Mackenzy Ryan with 12 seconds left in the game gave the Blue Devils a 18-17 victory.
Helping fuel the comeback was McCurry who scored all four of her goals in the second half, as she accounted for four of the final nine Central goals. Also contributing to the comeback were freshman Claire Healy who scored to make it 15-10, Conway who scored her fifth goal of the game to make it 16-13, and senior Lyndsey Mastandrea who scored with 1:23 left to make it a 17-16 game.
The Blue Devils allowed the Jaspers to open the games scoring, but Central answered with three straight goals from Conway to take a 3-1 lead. The lead wouldn't last as Central fell behind 7-6 at the half, and eventually trailed 15-9 with 15:58 left in the game.
Central was led in the comeback victory by Conway's five goals. McCurry had seven points, four goals and three assists, and sophomore Betsy Vendel had five points with four assists and a goal. Vendel's final assist came on the game winner when she passed to Ryan for the score, and her goal tied the game at 17-17.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday when they travel to another MAAC school, Niagara.
