Richmond Cruises Past In-State Rival ODU

RICHMOND, Va. -- The Spiders cruised past Commonwealth rival Old Dominion, 12-8, Wednesday afternoon at Robins Stadium. Danielle Schaevitz and Sam Stevenson each had a hat trick for Richmond.
The score went back and forth for the game's first 10 minutes of
play before Richmond scored five unnaswered to close the half to
lead 9-4. The Spiders' first tally in the scoring spree was a
Stevenson goal from Caitlin Fifield. Julianne Nicola then scored
from a Mary Flowers pass. Schaevitz lasered a shot into goal on a
free position and Flowers scored the half's last two goals to put
her Spiders up a comfortable five goals by the break.
ODU scored the last frame's first two tallies to cut the deficit
9-6, but Richmond scored three in a row to put the game out of
reach. Kara Moschetti had two of these goals, while Stevenson added
another.
Richmond out shot the Monarchs, 29-20 and recorded a game-best 37
ground balls.
Six different Spiders scored, with Schaevitz and Stevenson leading
the Spiders with a hat trick apiece. Five Spiders had assists, with
Flowers dishing a team-high two.
Richmond returns to action at No. 10 JMU Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
