UC Davis Explodes for 21 in 5th Straight Win

DETROIT - Sophomore Elizabeth Datino scored a
game-high six goals, senior Gina Hoffmire netted five more and
senior Christina Corsa provided five assists, leading UC Davis to a
21-11 win over Detroit in a non-conference collegiate women's
lacrosse game at Titan Field Sunday morning.
The Aggies, winners of five straight, improve to 5-1 for the
season. The Titans drop to 0-2.
Datino and Hoffmire shot a combined 11-for-13 in the contest.
Sophomore Anna Geissbuhler chipped in three goals with two caused
turnovers. Junior Vannessa Jamison tallied two goals and three
assists, and freshman Meghan Jordan corraled seven draw controls to
further the UC Davis cause. This is the third time the Aggies have
scored exactly 21 goals in a game during the 2011 season.
For Detroit, juniors Emily Boissoneault and Anna Eidem each scored
three goals.
UC Davis enjoyed an 8-0 start during the first 15:28 of the game,
culminating with Hoffmire's third goal. Corsa assisted Geissbuhler
twice in that span. The Titans got on the board for four straight
to halve the Aggie lead, but freshman Ashley Miller netted two
goals in a 6-0 finish to the half. Jamison assisted Corsa and
Rachael Martinez during the last minute before the break.
The Aggies and Titans evenly split 14 goals in the second half with
the 10-goal rule in effect throughout.
UC Davis shot 14-for-26 in the first half, outdrew its host by a
23-11 margin and broke almost half (eight) of Detroit's 17 attempts
to clear its way into its attacking third. Five different Aggies
each had three ground balls, while sophomore Hannah Mirza picked up
five draw controls to supplement's Jordan's seven.
The Aggies return to action at home against Bryant on Friday before
breaking for winter quarter final examinations. First draw against
the Bulldogs is 3 p.m.
