Veneziale Explodes for Six as Iona Beats CCSU

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Freshman Nina Veneziale, who had two goals in her first three collegiate lacrosse games, exploded for six as Iona downed Central Connecticut 17-10 in a women's lacrosse game on Saturday.

CCSU (1-2) scored the first two goals of the second half, taking an 8-7 lead with 24:12 left in the game on a goal by Meaghan McCurry. Veneziale then ignited a seven-goal Iona run, scoring on a free position shot with 18:37 remaining. Veneziale closed the run 11 minutes later with her sixth goal of the game. Kylie Gregory, who added four goals for Iona, had three of her goals during the pivotal run.

Caitlyn Collins added four assists to help get the Iona offense going and Emily Taddei, Brenna Lade and Elizabeth Coholan each added two goals. McCurry paced CCSU with three goals.

Iona, which won for the first time this season, plays at Long Island University on Wednesday.
