Hot Start Leads Siena Past LIU

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena scored 12 unanswered
goals, quickly erasing an early 1-0 deficit and trounced Long
Island 16-9 this afternoon at Siena Turf Field. Juniors Kristin
McMillan and Deirdre McQuillan led the offensive onslaught with
four goals and five points apiece.
After Shakoya Smith put LIU (0-2) on top just 1:39 into the game,
it would be all Siena (2-2) the rest of the way. McQuillan scored
all four of her goals and McMillan added three of her four tallies
during the Saints run of 12 straight scores.
Siena dominated from start to finish, out-shooting the Blackbirds
35-21 while winning 17 of the 27 draw controls. Caitlin Mikel
contributed two goals and an assist while adding four draw controls
and Maggie Deloria added a pair of tallies.
McMillan was solid all-around, adding team-highs of five draw
controls, three groundballs and two caused turnovers. Eight Saints
in total scored goals, as Michelle Andreo, Allie Primo, Katie
Maguire and Kelly Perry also added tallies.
Kristin Concordia made nine saves in goal to earn the win.
Annie Kalata led LIU with four goals, while Smith added a pair.
The Saints go for their third win in a row Wednesday at Lehigh.
