Colegrove's Late Heroics Lift Dukes Over UMBC
from staff report
PITTSBURGH - Cailin Colegrove's free position shot with 58 seconds left lifted Duquesne to an 8-7 victory UMBC in nonconference women's lacrosse on Saturday at a rain-soaked Rooney Field. Colegrove and Katie Rekart each had three goals for the Dukes (2-2) while Liz Walker made eight saves in goal to earn the victory.
UMBC (3-2), which upset nationally-ranked Towson earlier in the week, scored the first four goals of the game and held Duquense without a goal for nearly 25 minutes before its own offense went missing. After Amanda Pappas gave the Retrievers a 4-0 lead with 11:58 left in the first half, the Retrievers went more than 32 minutes without a goal.
Duquesne scored seven straight and led it 7-4, before Alicia Krause ended the UMBC drought, scoring with 9:15 left in the game. UMBC added two more and tied it 7-7 on Pappas' goal with 5:38 remaining before Colegrove, a Baltimore-area native, scored the game winner for the Dukes in the final minute.
Pappas led UMBC with two goals and Erika Braerman added a goal and two assists.
