Hoffmire's Career Game Paces Aggies in Victory
from press release
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Senior midfielder Gina
Hoffmire tied her career high of seven goals while teammate
Christina Corsa added three more, leading UC Davis to a 19-11 win
over Central Connecticut State in non-conference women's collegiate
lacrosse action on Arute Field Wednesday afternoon.
The Aggies improve to 3-1. The Blue Devils even their record to
1-1.
Hoffmire's scoring total matches her output almost exactly one year
ago at Temple, coincidentally UC Davis' next opponent.
Additionally, Laura Martin and Hannah Mirza each netted two goals,
while Elizabeth Datino, Vannessa Jamison, Rachael Martinez, Kristi
Irgens and Carly Voris chipped in one apiece. As a team, the Aggies
outshot their guests by a 40-21 margin, including 21-9 before the
break.
Corsa and Hoffmire scored goals right out of the gates to put the
Aggies up by a 2-0 lead with less than two minutes elapsed. Martin
and Mirza each scored both of their goals in the first half,
helping UC Davis amass an 11-3 lead at halftime. Martinez scored on
the first possession of the second period to start a 3-1 Aggie run,
extending the advantage to 10.
CCSU outscored UC Davis during the final 19 minutes of the game,
with sophomore Betsy Vendel scoring three of her four goals in that
stretch. However, the Blue Devils never cut the deficit by less
than seven goals. Hoffmire hit three goals in seven minutes to
stretch her team's 14-7 lead back to 18-7.
The Aggies continue their East Coast road trip with a game at
Temple on Friday at noon PST.
