Bowman, Villanova Blow Out Long Island U.

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova (2-1 overall, 0-0
BIG EAST) built a 10-2 cushion at halftime and went on to post a
16-3 victory over LIU (0-1 overall, 0-0 Northeast Conference) in
lacrosse game played here at Villanova Stadium today.
The Wildcats' Carly Miller got the scoring started with a goal off
a feed from junior Justine Donodeo at 27:49. Sophomore Maria Bowman
added an unassisted goal on a run through the middle of the defense
just under four minutes into the contest to make it a two goal
advantage for the Wildcats.
Donodeo picked up her first goal of the afternoon on a free
position shot at 17:48. The goal came after a Blackbird defender
was whistled for a foul to the upper body.
Kimberly Kovar accepted a short pass from Shakoya Smith and lifted
a shot just under the crossbar at 10:55 to give LIU its first goal
of the day and cut the gap to 3-1. The Blackbirds' Sarah LaNoir
scored again just 1:25 later to pull LIU another goal closer.
Bowman notched her second goal of the day on a move around the net
at 8:36 to push the Wildcats lead to 4-2. Senior Rachel Lasda added
an unassisted goal at 7:54 to restore VU's three goal advantage.
Donodeo added goal number two on the day at 7:26 to make it a 6-2
edge for the `Cats.
VU freshman Maria Mangiarotti added the Wildcats' seventh goal off
a pass from Bowman at 5:55 of the first half. Bowman then made it
an 8-2 lead for the `Cats on an unassisted score at 3:29. Miller's
second goal of the day pushed the lead to 9-2 with 36 seconds in
the half with freshman Katie Collopy earning the assist. Sophomore
Anne Fallon scored just 25 seconds later to make it 10-2 at
intermission.
Donodeo gave the `Cats a nine goal lead just 1:11 into the second
half off a feed from Fallon. Fallon then made it a 12-2 Wildcat
edge at 26:00 on an unassisted goal.
Bowman scored another at 19:41 to push the score to 13-2 in favor
of the Wildcats. VU would go on to score three more times to one
more tally for LIU to make the final 16-3.
The Wildcats travel to North Philadelphia on Friday to play their
first road contest of the season at La Salle.
