Fairfield Duo Earns MAAC Honors

from press release

Chloe Mangan (Sayville, N.Y.) and Melanie Raso (Farmingdale, N.Y.) were both honored with weekly awards by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League Tuesday afternoon. Mangan was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week and Raso earned Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Fairfield University women's lacrosse team to an 11-6 season opening win over Monmouth.

A St. Anthony's High School graduate, Mangan scored a game-high six points in the Stags win, including five goals. She tacked the final two goals of the Stags 6-0 run in the first-half that erased a three goal first-half deficit and gave Fairfield a 6-3 lead at the intermission. Mangan had three goals and an assist in the second-half. She corralled three draw controls, had a ground ball and caused a turnover in the victory.

A graduate of Farmingdale High School, Raso caused three turnovers and picked up five ground balls, both game-highs in the win. She also had a game-best five draw controls in her collegiate debut. She also netted her first collegiate goal, the Stags first of the year, to start a six-goal Fairfield run that erased a 3-0 first-half deficit.

Mangan, Raso and the Stags return to action on Friday at 3 p.m. when they host Quinnipiac at Alumni Field.
