Drost, McDonough Named UD Captains

from press release

NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware head women's lacrosse coach Kateri Linville, who will begin her first season at the helm of the program, announced that senior Corrine Drost and junior Kalyn McDonough have been selected as team captains for the 2011 season.

"The Delaware Lacrosse team set their goals high for the 2011 season and have now selected two individuals who have the talent and personal characteristics needed to effectively lead this program back to national prominence. I believe that the team selected two individuals who are talented, hard working, and willing to set a higher standard," said Linville, who played for the Hens from 2000-2003, serving as a captain in her final campaign.

Drost, a three-year letter winner who hails from Parkton, Md., saw time in each of the Hens' 16 games last season, including 14 starts. She was the team's third leading scorer, finishing 2010 with 18 goals and eight assists for 26 points. Drost has scored double-digit goals in each season with the Blue Hens, bringing her career total to 40. She has also doubled her assist total each season and has 14 assists in her career.

A product of near-by Kennett Square, Pa., McDonough enters her second season with Delaware after transferring from the University of Richmond. In 2010, she was one of two UD players to start all 16 games, collecting a team-high 27 groundballs. She snared 11 draw controls while also leading the team in caused turnovers with 16. McDonough was successful in the classroom as well, earning a spot on the Colonial Athletic Association's Academic Honor Roll.

"Corrine and Kalyn are driven to achieve excellence. They go the extra mile to serve their teammates and this program," said Linville. "Both Corrine and Kalyn have earned the trust and respect of the team, which will allow them to create an environment in which everyone can play to their strengths and contribute to the success of our season. I am confident that these two student-athletes will put in the work needed to take their game to the next level and that the team will follow their lead on and off the field."

Delaware opens its season on Feb. 16 when the Hens take on the 2010 national champion, the University of Maryland. The opening draw is slated for 4 p.m. in the Hens' new home at Delaware Stadium.
