Dartmouth Women Release 2011 Schedule
from press release
HANOVER, N.H. - Head coach Amy Patton has
announced the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team's 2011 schedule,
featuring five teams ranked in the preseason top-20 and the second
annual Ivy League Tournament.
Dartmouth, which ranks 14th in the Lacrosse Magazine preseason
poll, takes on three of the preseason top five squads including #4
Duke, #5 Syracuse and defending national champ #1 Maryland. The Big
Green will enjoy playing eight of its games on Scully Fahey Field
including six of the last seven regular season contests.
Entering her 19th season as Dartmouth's head coach, Patton enters
the 2011 campaign just two wins shy of 200 for her career, sporting
a 198-93 all-time record. She could also reach her 100th Ivy League
win, boasting a 94-27 mark against the Ancient Eight. Patton has
led Dartmouth to eight of its 11 Ivy League titles and 10 of its 11
NCAA Tournaments, including four final four appearances.
The Big Green brings back 10 starters from a team that went 11-5,
5-2 in the Ivy League and was just a goal short of winning the
first-ever Ivy League Tournament. This season's tournament will be
played from May 6-8 at the home field of the Ivy regular season
champion, featuring the top four teams in the standings. The winner
of the tournament will receive the Ivy's automatic bid to the NCAA
Tournament.
Dartmouth opens the season against instate rival New Hampshire on
Saturday, Feb. 26 at Scully Fahey. Last season, the Wildcats
snapped a 15-game losing streak to Dartmouth with a 9-8 win and
went on to a 10-win season. Following that home opener, Dartmouth
hits the road for four straight, starting at Vermont on March 2
before its Ivy debut on March 5 against Yale. The Big Green stays
in New England to take on perennial America East champ Boston
University on March 9 and then travels south for spring break,
capped with a March 19 showdown at #4 Duke. After a year off, the
Big Green and Blue Devils are renewing what has traditionally been
a spirited rivalry.
The Big Green returns to Hanover to host Oregon for a midweek tilt
on Wednesday, March 23 before a trip to Ivy foe Columbia that
Saturday, March 26. Dartmouth rolled Columbia last season, 15-1,
for its 13th straight against the Lions. Following that trip,
Dartmouth is home for three games in seven days when it hosts a
pair of Ivy opponents in Brown on April 2 and Cornell on April 9
around a showdown with #5 Syracuse on April 4. The Big Green popped
the 6th ranked Orange on the road last season, 17-10.
Dartmouth's final road game of the regular season should be one of
the biggest games of the Ivy slate when the Big Green faces #8 Penn
in Philadelphia on April 18. Dartmouth lost its regular season
battle to the Quakers, 9-6, before falling in heartbreaking fashion
in the Ivy Tournament championship game, 9-8, at Franklin
Field.
The Big Green closes out the season with a three game homestand,
starting with Ivy rival #18 Princeton on Saturday April 23. Next up
is some Friday night lights action on April 29 as Dartmouth hosts
Harvard for a 7 p.m. tilt at Scully Fahey. Dartmouth wraps up the
regular season against defending national champ and preseason #1
Maryland on Sunday, May 1.
Dartmouth women's lacrosse has won 11 Ivy League Championships and
made 11 NCAA Tournament appearances, recently advancing to the
final four in 2005 and 2006, when it made a run to the national
championship game.
