Canisius Women's Schedule Released

from press release

Seven home games and three contests against 2010 NCAA Tournament teams highlight the 2011 Canisius College women's lacrosse schedule, announced by head coach Scott Teeter on Tuesday.

"This is one of our most challenging schedules that we have put together," Teeter said. "The non-conference schedule will help us for our conference season and will better prepare us for reaching our goal of a MAAC Championship."

Canisius opens the season on Feb. 22, playing at Vanderbilt. The Griffs and Commodores, who finished 10th in the IWLCA national poll last season, are meeting for the first time on the lacrosse field.

The Griffs remain on the road for non-conference games against Detroit (Feb. 26), Stanford (March 6), Ohio State (March 7) and Binghamton (March 9). Stanford, who earned a spot in the 2010 NCAA Tournament, and Canisius are set to meet on a neutral field in Columbus, Ohio.

The team's home opener is scheduled for March 12 against Longwood. The Griffs also play non-conference games at the Demske Sports Complex against Connecticut (March 25), Duquesne (March 27) and Albany (April 21), while playing at Robert Morris (March 22) and St. Bonaventure (April 25).

The Griffs open MAAC play at home against Manhattan (April 1). Canisius also hosts Iona (April 3) and Siena (April 17), while playing at defending champion Marist (April 8), Fairfield (April 10) and Niagara (April 19).

The top four teams in the MAAC regular season qualify for the 2011 MAAC Championship, held on the campus of Iona College. The semifinals take place on April 29 with the championship game is slated for May 1.

Canisius returns 18 letterwinners and seven starters from the 2010 team that finished second in the MAAC and earned its third-straight trip to the conference tournament for the first time in the program's history.
