Morgan Names Hofstra Captains

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Hofstra University Head
Women's Lacrosse Coach Abby Morgan announced today that Katie
Hertsch, Bettina Mianulli, Stephanie Rice and Jennalee Trombley
will serve as team captains for the Pride during the upcoming 2011
"We are very proud to announce our captains for the upcoming season," commented Morgan. "All four seniors possess exceptional leadership skills on and off the field. Katie, Bettina, Stephanie and Jenna are all great ambassadors for our program and the standards that we strive to uphold. Each student-athlete will be instrumental is leading us towards our goals this season."
All four are seniors and each were members of the Pride's 2010 squad that advanced to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) title game and finished the year ranked No. 15 in the nation.
Hertsch (Westminster, MD), Hofstra's top returning defender and a member of the United States Women's National Team, was a 2010 first team Mid-Atlantic Region All-American and also earned All-CAA honors. Hertsch had 34 ground balls, 31 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers last season.
Mianulli (North Caldwell, NJ) enters her third season on the Pride in 2011 and will look to build upon a solid 2010 campaign that saw her chip in with 16 ground balls, six caused turnovers and four draw controls.
Rice (Skaneateles, NY) is Hofstra's top returning goal-scoring threat as she was fourth on the team last season in goals with 23, while also adding two assists for 25 points. Rice also added 17 ground balls, nine caused turnovers and six draw controls in 2010.
Trombley (Penn Yan, NY) is one of Hofstra's more versatile players and totaled 13 ground balls, nine caused turnovers, seven draw controls, two goals and two assists last season.
The group started nearly every game last season as Hertsch and Rice started all 18 games in 2010, while Mianulli and Trombley each started 17 games.
All four are also recipients of the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award and helped Hofstra receive the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Merit Squad honor in 2010 signifying that Hofstra had one of the top three grade point averages as a team last season. In fact, Hofstra had the top GPA in the nation last season and was third in the nation in 2009.
