Jessy Morgan Returns to UVA as Assistant
from press release
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Virginia head women's
lacrosse coach Julie Myers announced Thursday that former Cavalier
Jessy Morgan has been named an assistant coach.
Morgan returns to Charlottesville after serving as the head women's
lacrosse coach at Howard University for two seasons. During her
time with the Bison, Morgan coached the 2010 National Lacrosse
Conference (NLC) Attacker of the Year, Desiree Cox, two NLC
All-Academic Team members and three NLC All-Tournament Team
honorees.
"I am so excited to have Jessy Morgan back at UVa helping us
compete at the highest level," Myers said. "She brings great
experience, energy and passion, not only for lacrosse, but also for
the University of Virginia and our athletics department. Jessy is a
great addition to our staff and program and we feel lucky to work
alongside her."
A former All-American defender for the Cavaliers, Morgan helped UVa
win the 2004 NCAA Championship and three ACC titles in her four
years. The Baltimore, Md., native anchored a Cavalier defense that
finished the 2006 season ranked sixth nationally in scoring
defense. In addition, Inside Lacrosse named her a National Player
of the Week that year for her accomplishments in helping UVa secure
victories over back-to-back nationally ranked opponents.
Morgan finished both her junior and senior seasons ranked third on
the team in ground balls and second in caused turnovers.
On the national scene, Morgan was a two-time USA Developmental Team
member and was voted the eighth-best African-American lacrosse
player of all-time by Lacrosse Magazine.
"It's an amazing feeling to be back in Charlottesville," Morgan
said. "I am so grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a
program that has already given so much to me. I am excited to be
able to work alongside two of the best coaches in the game and I'm
really excited about starting the season."
Morgan earned her bachelor's degree in English from Virginia in
2007.
