Former Stanford Skipper Now at Jacksonville
from press release
The JU director of lacrosse and women's head coach Mindy McCord
announced the hiring of Adam Norton as assistant coach for the 2011
season.
Norton joins the Dolphins after a successful stint with Stanford as
both an assistant and co-head coach, where he led the No. 10
Cardinal to a 2008 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship,
including earning a US Lacrosse "Co-Coach of the Week" honor.
"We are extremely excited to have Adam be a part of the JU lacrosse
program," said McCord. "Adam has been a leader everywhere he has
been, which says a lot about his character and team approach to the
game. He is a highly-respected coach and we are counting on him to
pass his experiences and winning attitude to our players."
Prior to his time with Stanford, Norton coached both boys and girls
lacrosse at Episcopal High School and the Capital Girls Lacrosse
Club while he worked as a financial advisor for Legg Mason Wood
Walker, now Smith Barney.
"I want to thank Coach McCord for the opportunity to coach here at
JU," said Norton. "JU has a rich tradition of athletic success.
Their combined 29 conference championships over the past five years
is very impressive and I am really excited to work with such great
people and such wonderful ambassadors of the sport."
Since 2004, Norton has been the director of C4 Lacrosse, a company
with a focus on camps, clinics and individual instruction. He has
been both a presenter and speaker at the US Lacrosse Convention the
past two years and was a selector for the Girls National Tournament
Mid Atlantic teams and Under Armour Girls All-American
tournament.
"Lacrosse in Florida is growing by leaps and bounds," Norton said.
"Although JU is a young lacrosse program, Mindy has already
established a tradition of competitiveness, pride and excellence of
which I'm honored to be a part of."
Norton was a four-year letterwinner as a goalie for Dickinson
College. During his senior year, he was named team captain and
received "Most Valuable Player" honors. He graduated with a
bachelor's degree in psychology.
