THE INSIDE SCOOP
GEORGETOWN WINS REGULAR–SEASON CROWN – After going 8-0
in BIG EAST play during the regular season, Georgetown has earned
the No. 1 seed for the 2010 BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse
Championship, which begins May 6 in Piscataway, N.J.
The Hoyas (11-5 overall, 8-0 BIG EAST) won the BIG EAST
regular-season title for the ninth time in school history after
last week’s 10-9 win against Syracuse at the Carrier Dome.
Georgetown finished the regular season unbeaten in BIG EAST play
for the seventh time in 10 seasons, but will look for its first BIG
EAST tournament title.
The loss for Syracuse (12-5, 6-2) sent the Orange into a tie with
Notre Dame – for second place in the BIG EAST standings. The
Irish (11-5, 6-2) will be the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST
Championship by virtue of their April 11 win against Syracuse.
Loyola (11-6, 5-3) will be the No. 4 seed in the tournament as the
Greyhounds make their debut in the BIG EAST Championship. Loyola
wrapped up BIG EAST play April 28, but had to wait for
Friday’s result between Rutgers and Louisville to be assured
of a spot in the tournament.
The CBS College Sports Network will televise all three games of the
tournament, with Jason Knapp and Sheehan Burch calling the action.
All three games will be televised for the first time in league
history.
