UNH's Keagins Kicks UVM to the Curb

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Kate Keagins totaled nine
points on five goals and four assists to lead the New Hampshire
Wildcats to an 18-10 victory over Vermont in America East women's
lacrosse action at Moulton Winder Field on Saturday afternoon.
JoJo Curro added four goals and Shaunna Kaplan netted a hat trick
and added three assists for six points on the afternoon to
contribute to the win for UNH.
Senior Kaitlyn Fuller (Jordan, N.Y.) scored a hat trick and
classmate Alison Haigh (Northborough, Mass.) added three points to
lead the Catamounts.
The first half was tightly contested through the first 20 minutes.
An 8m goal by Haigh at the 9:47 mark knotted the game at 5-5, but
UNH answered with four straight tallies to build a 9-5 lead. UVM
scored twice in the final 19 seconds to slice the lead to two, 9-7,
at the half.
The Wildcats dominated possession in the second half. They opened
final stanza scoring nine straight and held UVM scoreless until the
final 1:59 of the contest. The Catamounts closed out the game
scoring three consecutive goals to cut the margin to eight and the
final score of 18-10.
UNH out shot Vermont 42-22 in the game and held a 15-8 advantage
in ground balls.
Laura Barber (Middlebury, Vt.) made a season-high 15 saves for
Vermont, while Kathleen O'Keefe was credited with four stops for
New Hampshire.
Vermont closes out the 2010 season with a record of 4-11 and a 1-5
mark in league play. New Hampshire has earned the No. 3 seed in the
upcoming America East Championship and improves to 10-6 overall and
4-2 in the conference.
