BC Tops UNH for Program-Record 11th Win
from press release
The Boston College lacrosse team topped New Hampshire, 12-6 on
Wednesday afternoon in Newton, Mass.
The Eagles improved to 11-5 on the year while the Wildcats fell to
9-6
New Hampshire opened the game with a goal early on, but the Eagles
bounced back to take a 3-1 lead thanks to sophomore Brittany
Wilton, senior Lauren Costello and junior Hannah Alley. After
another score by the Wildcats, junior Jill Amo notched her second
goal of the season at 2:39 of the half to give the Eagles a 4-2
lead at halftime.
Both teams picked up the pace in the second half, as the Eagles
opened with three straight scores. Freshman Brooke Blue notched her
37th and 38th goal of the year with Costello following suit at
23:23 of the half. However, UNH picked itself up from the deficit
to pull within a goal thanks to four, unanswered scores by the 7:00
mark.
Undeterred by the sudden pressure, Boston College gained the much
needed momentum during a timeout and burst forth to finish the game
on a five-goal run. Wilton added another tally as Costello and Blue
grabbed two more for the day. The final score finished at 12-6.
Junior goalie Sheila Serafino made seven saves on the day as the
Eagles outshot UNH, 24-14.
Boston College reached new Heights today, as the 2010 team became
the first squad to win 11 games in a season. Previously, the Eagles
had achieved 10 wins in 2003 and 2009.
Senior Lauren Costello also achieved a milestone by becoming BCs
all-time leader in single-season points today with her 86th of the
season. She also became the all-time, single-season leader in goals
with her 46th of the year.
Boston College will next host Le Moyne on Saturday, May 1 at 1:00
p.m.
