WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Having already clinched a spot in next
week's conference tournament, the 20th-ranked William and Mary
lacrosse team will wrap up its regular-season slate when it hosts
Old Dominion on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
After splitting its contests against George Mason and James Madison
last weekend, the Tribe (9-7, 3-3) secured the fourth seed in the
league tournament and will take on the top-seeded Dukes in the
opening round.
As a team, W&M continues to lead the nation with 13.0 caused
turnovers per game, while it ranks 12th in ground balls per game
(21.4) and 16th in draw controls per game (13.6).
Individually, junior Grace Golden ranks sixth in the country with
2.25 caused turnovers per game and 14th with 3.06 ground balls per
game. Additionally, she leads the team with 42 goals and ranks
among the CAA's top 10 with 3.19 points per game. Junior Ashley
Holofcener has also come up big offensively and ranks 10th
nationally with 2.07 assists per game, while senior Mary Zulty
leads the team and ranks sixth in the conference with 3.44 points
per game.
Junior goalkeeper Emily Geary recently moved into second place on
the Tribe's all-time saves list, and she currently ranks 17th
nationally with 146 stops this season.
Although Old Dominion enters Wednesday's contest with a 3-11 record
overall and a 1-5 mark in league play, the Lady Monarchs are coming
off a 10-9 double overtime victory against George Mason on Sunday.
The win snapped a nine-game losing streak. ODU is averaging just
9.6 goals per game this season, while it is surrendering 13.5 per
contest. Ashley Kellogg leads the team with 39 goals, while Lisa
Bernardini ranks second in the conference with 4.0 points per
game.
The Tribe has won four of its last five meetings against ODU and
controls the all-time series, 29-9. W&M has won each of the
last two contests by at least 10 goals, as it earned a 19-7 victory
in 2008 and a 20-10 triumph last season.
