Dove Breaks Syracuse Career Goals Mark
from press release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior Christina Dove
scored five times and became Syracuse’s all-time leader in
goals in the Orange's 16-11 victory at Louisville on Sunday, April
25. Dove registered a game-high eight points to lead Syracuse to
its fifth consecutive victory.
Dove increased her career goals total to 236, which breaks the old
record of 232 held by Katie Rowan (2006-09). She tied Rowan’s
total on a free position goal at the 5:23 mark of the first half
and then broke the record on an unassisted goal with 2:14 remaining
in the first half. Dove is the active Division I leader in both
goals and points (315).
“It’s a great accomplishment,” Dove said of
setting the record. “Katie Rowan is great player and I
learned a lot from her. It was crucial that we won this game.
It’s always great to score goals in a game that
matters.”
Louisville (9-6, 2-4) jumped out to a 4-1 lead before senior Halley
Quillinan scored an open net goal on a failed clear attempt by
Louisville. Quillinan’s goal sparked the Orange on a 4-0
scoring run that gave Syracuse (12-4, 6-1) a 5-4 lead with 7:35
remaining. Quillinan recorded her second consecutive goal on an
assist from Dove before freshman Michelle Tumolo netted an
unassisted goal 17 seconds later to tie the score, 4-4. Tumolo then
assisted on junior Tee Ladouceur’s goal that gave SU its
first lead of the day at the 7:35 mark. After Emily Dashiell tied
the score with her second goal of the day, Quillinan and Dove
combined for three consecutive goals to give the Orange an 8-5 lead
with 2:14 on the clock. The Cardinals scored the final two goals of
the half to cut Syracuse’s lead to 8-7 at halftime.
The Orange opened the second half with a 4-0 scoring run to take
control of the game. Dove converted a free position attempt and
Quillinan found the back of the net to increase Syracuse’s
lead to 10-7. Tumolo assisted on another goal by Dove before
scoring her second goal of the day to give Syracuse a five-goal
advantage. Bergan Foley recorded back-to-back goals to cut the lead
to three with 10:11 remaining, but that was as close as Louisville
would get. Quillinan and Ladouceur found the back of the net as the
Orange equaled its largest lead of the day. Tumolo and Dove
recorded goals in the final six minutes as Syracuse recorded the
16-11 victory.
Tumolo registered six points (3g, 3a), increasing her season total
to 60. That is the highest point total for a freshman in program
history, surpassing the previous mark of 58 set by Dove in 2007.
Tumolo now has 31 assists this season, which is also a freshman
record.
Quillinan finished with five goals and an assist, while Ladouceur
had two goals. Freshman Tegan Brown also added a goal. Dashiell led
Louisville with five goals.
Syracuse outshot the Cardinals, 37-27, and picked up 28 ground
balls to 23 for Louisville. The Cardinals won 16-of-29 draw
controls. Goalkeeper Liz Hogan (Victory, N.Y.) recorded 12 saves
for SU, while Danielle Pawliw recorded 10 saves for Louisville.
The Orange will close out the regular season on Saturday when it
hosts BIG EAST rival Georgetown at 1 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
