Binghamton Gets Just Second-Ever AE Win

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Junior attack Ali Castiglie
poured in five points to lead the Binghamton University's women's
lacrosse team to a 12-10 victory over Stony Brook in America East
women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports
Complex. This victory marks the second conference win in Bearcat
women's lacrosse history.
Binghamton started hot scoring the first three goals of the game
before Stony Brook would stop the run with two goals at the 19:08
mark to cut the early lead 3-2. The Bearcats would finish the half
on a 6-3 run, off goals from freshman Lindsay Angelillo, red-shirt
juinor Lizzie Wright, Castiglie and sophomore Lis Zuern to take a
9-4 lead into the half.
Castiglie opened up the second half with a goal for the Bearcats
before the Seaswolves would storm back scoring three quick goals to
cut the Binghamton lead to 10-7 with 16:10 left in the game.
However, freshman attack Kimberly McGeever ended the run off a feed
from Castiglie and Zuern would add another goal a minute later to
put the Bearcats back up by five. Stony Brook would score the last
three goals of the game but would not be able to overcome the
Binghamton lead.
Castiglie led the Bearcats with five points, 2 goals and three
assists. Also scoring for the Bearcats was Zuern with three, and
Angelillo, Wright and McGeever adding two apiece. McGeever also
added two assists and freshmen Kristin Stone scored once.
Emily Miller had a solid outing in goal, stopping 10 shots
The Seawolves held the edge in shots (29-23) and draw controls
(14-10) while Binghamton grabbed more ground balls (21-14).\
Castilie for Binghamton and Samantha Djaha for Stony Brook were
named the America East Players of the Game.
Binghamton heads out on the road to face Marist in the last
non-conference game of the season for the Bearcats. Action begins
on Monday, April 26 at 4 p.m.
