All-ACC Women's Lacrosse Team Announced
from press release
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Nine 2010 Tewaaraton
Trophy candidates highlight the 18-member 2010 All-Atlantic Coast
Conference Women's Lacrosse Team, as announced by the league office
on Wednesday.
Maryland, which will serve as host to this year's ACC Women's
Lacrosse Championship, lead all league programs with five
representatives named to the 2010 squad, matching last year's
Terrapin tally. Duke and North Carolina added four student-athletes
to the list, which was determined by a vote of the ACC's six head
coaches, while Virginia placed three on the team and Boston College
two.
Duke and Maryland are both led by a trio of Tewaaraton nominees, an
award annually bestowed upon the nation's best women's lacrosse
player. The Terrapin Tewaaraton nominees include Karri Ellen
Johnson, who boasts the sixth-longest scoring streak in the nation,
Caitlyn McFadden, who has had eight multi-goal games this season,
and Karissa Taylor, who has helped Maryland hold opponents to a
mere 7.29 goals per game average.
Duke's Sarah Bullard, the only Blue Devil to reach double figures
this season in each of four categories, goals, draw controls,
ground balls and caused turnovers, joins teammates Lindsay Gilbride
and Danielle Kachulis as Tewaaraton nominees and ACC
representatives on the all-league team. Gilbride is currently
seventh all-time at Duke in both career goals and points, while
Kachulis is two games shy of moving into a tie for seventh in
school history in games played.
Rounding out the Tewaaraton nominees on this year's All-ACC team
are North Carolina's Logan Ripley, the only goalkeeper on the
annual All-ACC squad, and Jenn Russell, as well as Virginia's
Kaitlin Duff, who is only the second Cavalier to reach 100 in five
career stat categories.
Only one freshman, Katie Schwarzmann, is showcased on the 2010
All-ACC team. The newcomer cracked into Maryland's starting lineup,
despite the Terps returning all 12 starters from its ACC champion
squad last season, and is currently fourth on the team in scoring
and second in ground balls, while tallying a point in every match
for Maryland this season.
The 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship's
opening face-off is Thursday, April 22, on the University of
Maryland campus in College Park. The three-day event will be held
at the Terrapins' Ludwig Field. For more information about the 2010

Individual awards, such as Player, Coach and Freshman of the Year,
will be voted on by the league's head coaches following the last
regular season game and announced by the league office in May.
