Rutgers Takes Care of Villanova 14-6

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Four goals from Brooke
Cantwell helped lift Rutgers (9-3 overall, 2-2 BIG EAST) to a 14-6
victory over Villanova (7-4 overall, 0-3 BIG EAST) in a women's
lacrosse match played here tonight.
The Wildcats gained an early advantage when junior Rachel Lasda
found classmate Carly Miller with a pass at 25:34. Miller fired a
shot into the back of the net to give Villanova a 1-0 edge.
Rutgers got on the scoreboard at 20:11 when Lindsey Watts scored on
a free position opportunity and then followed that up with a goal
by Cantwell off a feed from Mary Cryan at 16:55. Lasda pulled the
Wildcats even with an unassisted goal at 15:38.
The Scarlet Knights took control by notching the game's next four
scores, including goals by Stephanie Anderson, Kristen Anderson,
Cantwell and Marlena Welsh. Miller got one back for Villanova off
an assist from senior Erica Rybinski at 6:08 before the Scarlet
Knights scored two more before intermission.
It was 8-3 in favor of Rutgers at the break.
Welsh and Kristen Anderson scored at 17:49 and 14:21 to push the
margin to 10-3. Rybinski scored for VU at 13:33 before Watts
answered for the Scarlet Knights at 10:22.
Sophomore Justine Donodeo and senior Samantha McKillip scored the
final two goals of the night for Villanova.
Rutgers owned a 32-22 advantage in shots and a 12-8 edge in ground
balls. Lily Kalata made seven saves in net for the Scarlet Knights
while junior Maggie Langan was credited with two saves and freshman
Amanda Hirschfeld with five for the `Cats.
