Denver's Harman Tabbed as MPSF Winner
from press release
DENVER – University of Denver lacrosse sophomore
goalkeeper Ashley Harman (Boyertown, Pa.) was named Mountain
Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week, the MPSF
announced.
Harman helped Denver remain unbeaten in MPSF play and take sole
possession of first place last week, as the Pioneers defeated UC
Davis and No. 11 Stanford, both of which were undefeated in the
MPSF entering the games.
Harman recorded a career-high 16 saves against the Cardinal on
April 11, the most by a DU goalkeeper since 2005.
In a 17-7 win over UC Davis on April 9, Harman made four saves and
allowed just six goals, while also adding her first career assist
on a long pass to Tulley Stapp, who never broke stride on her way
to the goal.
Starting all 14 games for DU this season, Harman increased her save
percentage to .446, which is second in the MPSF, and is now 10-4
overall and 4-0 in the MPSF. Harman's 9.25 goals against average
ranks first in the MPSF and 24th in the nation.
This marks Harman's first career MPSF Player of the Week honor and
the sixth time a DU player has claimed the award this season,
including the third straight. Seniors Ali Flury (April 5) and Lexi
Sanders (Feb. 15 and March 29), sophomore Lauren Ciccomascolo (Feb.
1) and redshirt freshman Kara Secora (March 8) have also earned the
award.
The Pioneers conclude their regular season home schedule against
Fresno State on Saturday at 1 p.m. Following a game at Oregon on
April 24, Denver will host the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation
Championship at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on April 29-May 2.
