Boston College Thumps Iona to Improve to 8-3

NEWTON, Mass. -- The Boston College lacrosse
team topped Iona College, 19-5 on Wednesday afternoon in Newton,
Mass.
The Eagles improve to 8-3 on the season while Iona falls to
4-7.
Boston College got on the board first with scores by junior
Kristin Igoe and senior Peyton Killeen, with senior Lauren Costello
adding an assist on each goal. After an Iona goal cut the Eagles'
lead to just one, BC's offense took over the game, notching eight
straight tallies to take the game into halftime with the Eagles
leading 10-1. Igoe scored two and Costello added one in addition to
one each by juniors Jill Amo and Hannah Alley, sophomores Sam
Taylor and Brittany Wilton and freshman Brooke Blue.
The Eagles opened the second half with strong play, scoring the
first four goals of the half by the 25:18 mark, thanks to three
more scores by Wilton and one by Blue. The Eagles and the Gaels
would trade off the next six goals with Blue, Igoe and Wilton
scoring once again. Killeen added one more at 9:29 of the half and
senior Suzanne Cannon also put one in the back of the net at the
0:17 mark of the half. The score finished at 19-5.
Junior goalie Sheila Serafino made three saves in net for the
Eagles with sophomore Catherine Conway earning just over five
minutes between the pipes as well. The Eagles outshot the Gaels,
28-13 on the day.
Costello also set a new record for the Eagles by notching nine
assists on the afternoon, topping the previous record of six which
was achieved on three separate occasions before.
Boston College will travel to face Duke in its next contest, this
Saturday, April 10 at 1:00 p.m. in Durham, N.C.
