Gavin, Pawliw Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I.
– Snapping a two-week stretch of repeat women's lacrosse weekly award winners, Loyola junior Grace Gavin has earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors. Louisville rookie Danielle Pawliw earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors. Both awards are the first of the season for each player.

Gavin earns BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Greyhounds with seven points in a 1-0 week. She scored three goals and had four assists in a 16-6 victory against Cincinnati on April 3. All four of her assists came in the second half. She also recorded four draw controls, three ground balls and one caused turnover. Gavin has scored a point in 40 straight games and a goal in 34 consecutive contests.

Pawliw totaled 33 saves in a 3-0 week for the Cardinals. In a 13-9 conference victory against Cincinnati on March 30, she made eight saves. She also set a single-game school record with 16 against Old Dominion on April 2. Pawliw became the first goalie in school history to win three games in the same week. She also became the first freshman goalie in school history to win three games in a row twice in the same season.

BIG EAST HONOR ROLL
Brooke Cantwell, Rutgers, Senior, Attack
Totaled six points in a 15-10 win over UConn; had three goals and three assists along with three ground balls and two caused turnovers

Bergan Foley, Louisville, Junior, Attack
Totaled 12 points in a 3-0 week; had 12 goals along with nine draw controls

Caitlin Formby, Georgetown, Senior, Goalkeeper
Made seven saves in a 1-0 week; had all seven in a 12-10 win over Notre Dame, including a few big stops at the end of the game

Ana Heneberry, Loyola, Sophomore, Defense
Led the defense in a 16-6 win over Cincinnati, the team's only game last week; also totaled four ground balls

Michelle Tumolo, Syracuse, Freshman, Attack
Had five points, including three goals in a 17-11 win at then-No. 13/17 Boston Univ.; has totaled a school rookie record 22 assists this year

THE INSIDE SCOOP
TEWAARATON TROPHY WATCH LIST – Eight BIG EAST players have been named as part of the 52-player Tewaaraton Watch List. Georgetown leads the league with three nominees. The 2010 award will be presented on June 3, 2010 at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.

Players from BIG EAST schools include: Molly Ford, Ashby Kaestner and Jordy Kirr (Georgetown); Shaylyn Blaney and Gina Scioscia (Notre Dame); Christina Dove and Liz Hogan (Syracuse) and Bergan Foley (Louisville).

CONFERENCE GAMES BETWEEN RANKED TEAMS – With then-No. 9/16 Georgetown beating then-No. 11/13 Notre Dame 12-10 last week, it marked the first conference game between ranked teams this season. Two more matchups are set for this week as No. 14/16 Notre Dame heads to No. 13/13 Loyola while No. 8/9 Syracuse heads to No. 14/16 Notre Dame.
