team’s Senior Day with its seven seniors being recognized
prior to the start of the contest.
Freshman Caroline McTiernan led the Cavaliers with four scores,
while sophomore Charlie Finnigan added three. Sophomore Josie Owen
added another goal to help the underclassmen account for eight of
Virginia’s 12 goals. Senior Caity Whiteley added two goals,
while redshirt senior Whitaker Hagerman and senior All-American
Brittany Kalkstein rounded out the scoring with a goal each.
For Boston College (7-3, 1-3 ACC), Kristin Igoe had four goals,
while Sheila Serafino stopped seven goals in cage.
Kalkstein started the scoring in the game, notching her 115th
career goal at the 27:14 mark, assisted by Whiteley. Boston College
would rally for the next two scores though, taking a 2-1 lead at

18:07 and 16:43 to give the Cavaliers a 3-2 edge.
Finnigan then made it 4-2 in favor of the home team with a goal at
11:48, before McTiernan completed the first hat trick of her career
at 11:26, firing a shot into the net from Finnigan.
Boston College called a timeout following the goal. Out of the
break, Igoe had two-unanswered goals for the Eagles to cut
Virginia’s lead to one, 5-4, with 10:08 left in the half.
Following almost five minutes of scoreless action, Finnigan

8-4 lead heading into halftime.
Owen and Hagerman each contributed goals out of the break to extend
Virginia’s run to five-straight goals, giving the Cavaliers a
10-4 lead with 23:53 to play.
Igoe would respond for the Eagles once again though, firing another
pair goals into the net to cut Virginia’s lead to four, 10-6,
at the 14:15 mark. The goals would prove to be the last from the
Eagles, as McTiernan and Whiteley – flinging a behind the
back shot from sophomore Julie Gardner into the goal with 40
seconds remaining– rounded out the scoring and brought the
final score to 12-6.
Kalkstein fired up the Cavaliers’ attack, winning eight of
Virginia’s 11 draw controls. Duff added four ground balls,
