Richmond Throttles George Washington, 17-6

RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond cruised to a 17-6 win
over visiting GW Friday afternoon at UR Stadium. Freshman Gabi
Wiegand led six Spiders with a career-best six goals.
The Spiders had control of the game from the first whistle, scoring
six unanswered goals within the first 10 minutes of play. Wiegand
was responsible for the first two, with Julianne Nicola accounting
for two tallies and Danielle Schaevitz and Kara Moschetti each
notching one goal apiece in the scoring spree.
GW would recover with three unanswered goals of its own to cut the
lead to 6-3 with 6:15 remaining in the first half. Richmond
answered the GW's challenge by scoring the half's last four goals,
including another two from Wiegand. Wiegand scored her most
impressive goal to date with a last-second laser to end the first
frame.
GW gained control of the draw early in the second half, which
allowed quick goals to cut the Richmond advantage to 10-5. Again,
Richmond answered the GW rally with two more goals to
boost its lead back to 12-5 with 14:26 remaining.
GW would tally one more, but Richmond closed the second half much
like the first with five unanswered goals.
Wiegand's six goals was the most by a Spider since Mar. 10, 2009.

Richmond scored a season-high 17 goals, while allowing a season-low
six goals. Richmond's 17 tallies were the most goals scored since
last season's 21-12 rout over the Colonials.
Schaevitz and Moschetti each tallied a career-best hat tricks,
while Julianne Nicola and Sam Stevenson each added two goals
apiece. Shannon Cudahy added the other goal. Nicola added a
career-best three assists while Wiegand notched two dishes.
he Spiders outshot the Colonials by a whopping 34-14 and recorded a
game-best 20 ground balls.
The Spiders remain at home as they host No. 20 William & Mary
Sunday at 1 p.m.
