from press release
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Old Dominion lacrosse
team will face its toughest test of the season thus far as the Lady
Monarchs travel to No. 4 Virginia to renew an intrastate rivalry
with the Cavaliers on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Old Dominion (2-3) has won two of its last three games with the
only loss coming on a last second Virginia Tech goal in a 13-12
Hokies victory on Saturday.
Sophomore Lisa Bernardini and senior Ashley Kellogg continue to
ignite what is turning into a potent ODU offensive attack.
Bernardini is first in the CAA and sixth nationally with 5.4 points
per game, while Kellogg leads the league and is 10th in the country
with 3.6 goals per game.
Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Geary ranks first in the
conference and sixth nationally with 11.0 saves per contest and
senior Saratu Dodo places second in the CAA and sixth in the
country with 2.6 caused turnovers per game.
Virginia (7-3) moved up a spot in this week's IWLCA poll to No. 4
after topping No. 5 Duke, 8-7 in Durham, N.C. Saturday.
Kaitlin Duff paces the Cavaliers with 19 goals and 11 assists on
the year. Josie Owens leads the team with 13 assists and goalkeeper
Lauren Benner has posted a 5-1 mark with 57 saves.
Old Dominion fell in its last trip to Charlottesville in 2008, but
the Lady Monarchs were victorious against the No. 9 Cavaliers in
Norfolk last year, 13-10.
