No. 19 Hofstra Travels to No. 11 Stanford

from press release

Hempstead, N.Y.
- The Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team, ranked #19 by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), will travel to Palo Alto, California on Wednesday to take on #11 Stanford in the Pride's final non-conference game of the regular season.

Hofstra has put together a stellar 6-2 record thus far in its non-conference schedule. The Pride has quality wins over Cornell and #20 Rutgers with two narrow one-goal losses to top ten teams (13-12 to #8 Notre Dame and 6-5 to #4 Penn).

Hofstra has gotten off to the host start this season with the help of a high-octane offense. Hofstra has at least 17 goals in four of its eight games this season. That marks the first time since the 1998 season that Hofstra has at least 17 goals in at least four games. In 1998 Hofstra achieved that feat five times during the 16-game season.

Leading the way for the Pride through eight games has been senior midfielder Corrine Gandolfi. The only player in the nation to lead her team in every statistical category, Gandolfi has 27 goals, eight assists, 35 points, 21 ground balls, 36 draw controls and 16 caused turnovers in 2010. Fellow senior midfielder K'Leigh Vanaman has also put together a solid start to her senior campaign as she has chipped in with 11 goals, five assists, 16 points, 19 ground balls, 22 draw controls and eight caused turnovers. Vanaman ranks third in goals and second in points, ground balls draw controls and caused turnovers.

In goal this season, senior Mary Cuddihy has gotten the majority of the minutes and has compiled a 4-2 record along with a goals against average of 8.16 and a saves percentage of .506.

It will be the third all-time meeting between Hofstra and Stanford, with the Cardinal earning a narrow 9-8 home overtime win over the Pride in 2004. Hofstra won the first-ever meeting, 18-5, in Hempstead during the 2000 season.

Stanford, 5-4 this season after a 10-9 loss to #10 Towson on Sunday, is led by Sarah Flynn and Dana Lindsay. Flynn has 18 goals and five assists for a team-best 23 points, while Lindsay is second with 18 goals and four assists for 22 points.
