Ivy Player of Week Honors Go to MacKenzie
from press release
HANOVER, N.H. -- Junior defender Shannie MacKenzie
(Greenwich, Conn.) has been named the Ivy League Defensive Player
of the Week for her tremendous impact on a 2-0 week for the
Dartmouth women's lacrosse team.
The Big Green, ranked 16th last week, should see that number get
smaller on Monday night when the latest IWLCA poll is released.
Dartmouth won its fourth and fifth straight games, dominating #6
Syracuse, 17-10 on the road, and moving to 2-0 in Ivy play with a
convincing 12-5 win over Yale.
MacKenzie's defensive play was critical in both of those contests
and her impact goes well beyond the statistics, two caused
turnovers and a ground ball. At Syracuse, she was personally
responsible for guarding Tee Ladouceur, who came into the game
leading not only the Orange, but the entire nation in points per
game at 6.33.
MacKenzie held Ladouceur to just one point, a goal, and only two
shot attempts as well as four turnovers. Overall, the MacKenzie and
the defense disrupted the Orange's offense, which came into the
game with assists on 70 percent of its goals, keeping them to just
three assists.
Against Yale, MacKenzie helped hold the Bulldogs to just 16 shots
and 21 turnovers, a 12-5 Big Green win. She harassed Jenna Block
behind the cage all day, helping hold her to just one goal. Block
was coming off a four-point performance in Yale's upset of #13
Boston University. She also came up with a big interception to help
stop a Bulldog rally.
Dartmouth has another busy week ahead, hosting the Boston
University Terriers on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before traveling to
Brown for an Ivy tilt on Saturday, April 3.
