No. 4 UNC Closes Strong Routs No. 18 BC

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. - The University of North
Carolina women's lacrosse team team rallied from a 4-0 deficit in
the opening 22 minutes to dominate the remainder of the game with a
13-0 scoring run and defeat Boston College, 15-6, on Saturday
afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The fourth-ranked Tar Heels (8-1,
1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) scored 15 of the game's final 17
goals to down the 18th-ranked Eagles (7-2, 1-2 ACC).
Corey Donohoe led Carolina with four goals while Jenn Russell
scored three times and Kristen Taylor had two goals and one assist.
Kira Cannizzaro and Jessica Griffin each scored twice for UNC,
Laura Zimmerman had a goal and an assist and Megan Bosica and Becky
Lynch dished out two assists apiece. Emily Garrity also scored a
goal for the Tar Heels.
Kristin Igoe led BC with two goals and an assist.
BC opened the game with a strong showing, tallying the first four
goals of the game by the 8:32 mark. Igoe, Hannah Alley, Brittany
Wilton and Brooke Blue each put the ball in the net for the Eagles
to give BC a 4-0 lead.
The Tar Heels bounced back and scored four goals of their own
before the halftime whistle blew, sending the two teams into the
second period tied at four. Donohoe scored the last two first-half
goals with Taylor and Russell scoring as well.
UNC came out of halftime looking very strong, as the visitors were
able to score five unanswered goals before the Eagles made a goalie
change, bringing in sophomore Catherine Conway to take over between
the pipes. Although she helped provide support, the Tar Heels added
another four scores before BC grabbed its fifth goal of the
game.
Igoe tallied her second score and senior Lauren Costello notched a
goal as well but Carolina offset those with two more goals while on
the man-advantage. The game would end with the score at 15-6.
Senior All-America Logan Ripley started and played the first 56:20
of the game in goal for the Tar Heels, tallying four saves and
allowing five goals. Sophomore Britt Giacco finished out the final
3:40 in the cage for UNC, allowing one goal.
Junior goalie Sheila Serafino made six saves for the Eagles and
Conway tallied three more for the team as Carolina out-shot BC
30-16 in the game.
