Davidson Cruises Past Presbyterian 13-5
from press release
DAVIDSON, N.C. — Senior Jen Crawford
(Mountain Lakes, N.J.) registered a game-high four goals and
Davidson as a team tallied season highs of 32 groundballs and 29
forced turnovers in cruising to a 13-5 National Lacrosse Conference
win over Presbyterian on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Richardson
Stadium.
Crawford helped the Wildcats (5-6, 3-1 NLC) pick up their third
league win with a pair of goals each in the first and second halves
to take over the team lead with 28 on the season. Two more goals
and she will have her third straight 30-goal season as she has
netted a 113 for her career.
The trio of Jenna Mugele (Baltimore, Md.), Alanna Parker (Spring
Valley, Calif.) and Lindsay Cooper (Baltimore, Md.) assisted the
Wildcats to a season-high in groundballs with a combined 17 between
them. Parker, who also netted her 22nd goal of the season, and
Cooper had a season-best six each, while Mugele picked up five.
Parker’s six gave her 21 groundballs on the season, matching
Erin McGuire (Bishopville, Md.) for the team lead.
Cooper and Lily Graham (Washington, D.C.) each caused two of
Davidson’s 10 caused turnovers on defense.
Presbyterian (2-9, 1-2 NLC) was led offensively by Jenna
Handshoe’s and Marie-Lisette Dimitrew’s two goals
apiece.
Sophomore Anna Smith (Newburyport, Mass.) got the ‘Cats
rolling in the first eight minutes by connecting on a pair of goals
and Davidson held a 5-0 lead after Emily Rahill (Ridgewood, N.J.)
netted her 12th goal at the 17:08 mark.
The Blue Hose came back with two goals of their own, but Davidson
went into halftime up 7-2 after Crawford hit the Wildcats’
third free-position goal of the half with 50 second left. Prior to
that, Erin Keitel, who had two goals in the game, put one in the
back of the net off a nice feed from McGuire on the right side of
the eight-meter circle.
Davidson put the game out of reach with four straight scores to
open up the second half, including Haley Cook’s (Darien,
Conn.) 27th score of the year, and 104th of her career, with 13:18
left and the Wildcats leading 11-2. Cook has had 10 multi-goal
games this year as she opened up the game with a goal a minute into
the start of the contest.
Dimitrew and the Blue Hose regrouped a bit, going on a 3-0 run of
their own with Dimitrew scoring back-to-back goals at the 13:05 and
10:06 marks to bring the score to 11-5 and force a Wildcat
timeout.
But, after four minutes had past after the timeout, Mugele and
Crawford sealed the win with a goal each about 30 seconds apart
during the five minute mark for the final score of 13-5.
Goalie Michelle Pav (Golden, Colo.) had her third straight
double-digit save game, halting 10 PC shots to push her season
total to 83. She has stopped a combined 32 shots the last three
contests.
The Blue Hose’s Erin McBurnette was credited with 17 saves,
12 of them in the second half.
Davidson had a season-best 46 shots, putting 30 of them on goal.
Presbyterian did hold an 11-9 advantage in draw controls, but were
only 14-of-23 when it came to clear attempts, compared to the
Wildcats’ 22-of-27.
