Three-spot: Tribe Looks to Extend Streak

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The 17th-ranked William and Mary
lacrosse team will look to extend its winning streak to three games
when it plays at No. 14 Penn State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Tribe (5-3) is coming off one of its best defensive efforts of
the season with a 10-8 victory against California on Wednesday. In
addition to allowing a season-low eight goals, the Tribe held the
Golden Bears scoreless for a span of 32:37 en route to earning the
victory. Additionally, W&M utilized a balanced scoring attack,
as seven different players recorded a goal for the Green and
Gold.
As a team, the College currently leads the Colonial Athletic
Association in assists per game (6.00), ground balls per game
(23.12) and caused turnovers per game (14.38). Additionally,
W&M ranks third in the league in draw controls per game (13.88)
and goals per game (12.88). Although national rankings will not be
updated until next Tuesday, the Tribe entered the week ranked third
in caused turnovers per game, eighth in draw controls per game and
13th in ground balls per game.
Individually, All-American junior defender Sarah Jonson entered the
week ranked first nationally in caused turnovers per game and
ground balls per game. Following another impressive effort in the
win earlier this week, she continues to lead the conference in both
categories, while junior standout Grace Golden ranks second in both
categories.
Offensively, senior Mary Zulty leads the team with 31 points (21g,
10a), while junior Ashley Holofcener ranks second on the squad with
29 points (10g, 19a). Additionally, Holofcener ranks third in the
league with 2.38 apg.
Junior Molly Wannen is third in the conference with 3.62 draw
controls per game, while junior goalkeeper Emily Geary ranks third
in the league with 8.75 saves per game.
Penn State currently owns a 5-3 record and is coming off a 19-5
victory against Lafayette in its last outing. All three of the
Nittany Lions' losses have come against ranked teams. Molly
Fernandez leads the team with 23 points (16g, 7a), while Jen
Steadman ranks second on the squad with 20 points (13g, 7a).
