VILLANOVA, Pa. - The No. 9 Georgetown
University women's lacrosse squad got back on the winning track
Friday evening as the Hoyas down the Villanova University Wildcats
(6-2, 0-1 BIG EAST), 20-7, at Villanova Stadium. The game snapped a
three-game losing streak for the Hoyas and also marked the Blue
& Gray's first conference win of the season. GU is now 3-4
overall and 1-0 in BIG EAST play.
"Today was a good team effort, we had a number of people contribute
on both ends of the field and it was a nice way to start out our
BIG EAST schedule," said Head Coach Ricky Fried. "We know our fate
is in our hands and we are going to continue to focus on our play
and to get better, but today was a step in the right
direction."
Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr Academy) scored early and
senior Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) followed
that up with another tally just minutes into the game. Junior
Jacqueline Giles (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) then spun in the
middle to get past the keeper making it 3-0.
At 24:14, Sarah Seats found Giles charging for the cage and
freshman Kelsi Bozel (Hunt Valley, Md./Notre Dame Prep) then hit a
free position shot as the Hoyas kept on rolling. Erin Lovett
(Wantagh, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) tallied her first of the game
at 20:54 off of a pass from Bozel on the free position and Kaestner
managed her second at 17:21. Bunny O'Reilly (Blue Bell,
Pa./Springside School) scored making it 8-0, however, the Wildcats
came back with a 4-1 run.
GU closed out the half with a pair of goals by Molly Ford
(Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and one from Mary Beth Brophy
(Berwyn, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) making it 12-4 at the break.
Villanova scored first in the second half, but Georgetown answered
with a 4-0 run including three from Ford. The senior notched her
sixth of the evening at 16:54 and despite one more VU tally,
Georgetown went on to win 20-7 thanks to goals from Lovett, Dina
Jackson (Potomac, Md./Bullis) and Evan O'Neill (Ho-Ho-Kus,
N.J./Northern Highlands Regional).
Ford's career-high six goals led the way while three other players
managed two goals each. Kaestner had a squad-high three assists. GU
