Duquesne Bounces St. Joe's for Fourth in a Row

PHILADELPHIA - Meghan Frederick's free
position shot at 23:10 of the second half found the back of the net
and broke a 7-7 tie to put the Duquesne lacrosse team up for good
in its 13-10 victory in the Atlantic 10 Conference season opener
against Saint Joseph's on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Dukes have won four straight and five-of-six to
improve to 5-5, 1-0 on the season.
Katie Rekart scored three times for DU and Casey Denk, Frederick
and Sara Cates added two goals each. Kat McNish, Elise Caldwell,
Cailin Colegrove and Meredith Dunn also scored for Duquesne .
The match was played tight in the first half with three ties and
two lead changes. SJU's Julie Mineweaser closed out the scoring at
the 5:05 mark to put the Hawks up 5-4 heading into halftime.
McNish opened up the second half scoring 41 seconds in to tie the
match at 5-5. Saint Joseph's Grace Dinn and Jenna Martino scored
back-to-back goals 49 seconds apart to up the Hawks up 7-5 with
27:46 remaining in regulation.
Rekart responded with a pair of goals over the next three minutes
to tie the match at 7-7 and start a 7-0 DU run.
Duquesne would allow only a three goals the rest of the way, with
Sara Beckstead making seven saves and Liz Walker two in the
victory.
